Samsung’s new trick to save you a spike in your electricity bill

by time news

Since the electricity bill skyrocketed last year, we Spaniards are more aware than ever of the consumption of our electrical appliances. Precisely, the one that takes the most kilowatts of that account due to the fact that it is always on is the refrigerator, much more so now that the heat is approaching, and it has to make a greater effort to cool its interior.

Samsung has added connectivity and artificial intelligence to its new series of refrigerators. Some previous models already have a WIFI connection, but from now on all the new releases will be equipped with it. The goal is that 70% of its refrigerator offer by the end of the year can use artificial intelligence to improve energy efficiency.

Using a combination of hardware, software, and the Samsung Connected Devices app, SmartThings, AI can achieve up to 30% savings, regardless of the energy label that the refrigerator carries, according to the company promises. This is achieved by learning from the use that the refrigerator has, that is, from our behavior, from, for example, when and how many times we open the appliance in a day.

The most interesting thing is that, although they improve the consumption required by the A label, they cannot achieve a better rating, which is why it is a percentage of improvement over the label itself.

“Due to the current awareness of energy efficiency, 80% of Spanish buyers value the energy label first when buying a new appliance,” explains Nacho Ángel Murciano, head of the home applications division at Samsung Electronics.

The IA you have to activate it manually from the SmartThings application, since it needs the permissions of its user to start recording their behavior. In addition, the application monitors the daily electricity consumption of all connected devices, and in the case of the new refrigerators with AI, it will show a comparison of consumption with artificial intelligence activated and deactivated.

In addition to kW/h, it will show the total cost of consumption taking the national average as a reference, although it can be adapted if we know that detail from our electricity contract. It all happens within SmartThings Energy, which will also offer tips to save energy on the rest of the devices that are connected to the Samsung application.

Connectivity also brings other features, such as remote control of the fridge and freezer temperatures, and enabling some features such as rapid cooling.

At the moment they are not available for sale, and it will be between May and June when we will see the first models of Samsung refrigerators with artificial intelligence.

the washing machines they also add to the AI, and all those that already had connectivity, in addition to the new launches, will enjoy an artificial intelligence washing mode to optimize water and energy consumption, but above all the use of hot water, which translates into savings on 70% of consumption. This update will also arrive in the coming months.
