Samsung’s next foldables will come with new screens and an updated design

by time news

Does the increasing competition from the Chinese manufacturers who started marketing the folding models in the West urge Samsung to invest more in its models? At least this seems to be the initial report of the leaker Ice Universe about Samsung’s plans Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5, both of which are expected to arrive during August this year.

According to the leak, the two devices will come with a new technology for the touch screen about which there is still no concrete information, and hinges of a type that allow more reliable folding of the screen without the penetration of dirt, and also without creating visible fold marks. The external screen of the Fold 5 will keep its existing size of 6.2 inches, but in the Flip 5 the external screen will increase to 3.4 inches, and will actually cover most of the surface of the device while it is folded. It can be assumed that Samsung is preparing widgets and applications that can take advantage of the larger screen for notifications and control.

It is also written that in the Fold 5 the space between the two sides of the device while it is folded is expected to be reduced by 0.2 millimeters, thus almost disappearing while the entire device enjoys a thinner appearance. The frame of the internal screen is also expected to be reduced, especially in the Flip 5. Ice Universe also notes that both devices will come with IPX8 water resistance, and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset in the same edition as the Galaxy S23 series devices.

These details indicate a particularly significant upgrade, including in the appearance of the devices, which did not receive a major update in the previous round. One thing that is not specified is the price, and whether Samsung’s foldable devices will be relatively expensive again this year – or if the company intends to try and make them more accessible to the general public.
