In the second quarter, revenue of the South Korean manufacturer of electronics and home appliances Samsung Electronics grew by 21%, amounting to 77.2 trillion won ($59.1 billion). This is a record high for the second quarter. The company’s operating profit increased by 12% to 14.1 trillion won ($10.8 billion).

As in previous quarters, strong demand for semiconductors helped the good results, with the division’s revenue setting a new record of 28.5 trillion won ($21.8 billion). At the same time, Samsung warns that demand for memory chips from PC and smartphone manufacturers will decline due to falling demand for gadgets due to rising prices. Demand from server manufacturers is more stable, but in the face of an economic downturn, they may also reduce purchases.

Samsung’s mobile division’s revenue rose 31% in the quarter on strong sales of flagship smartphones, but operating income declined as a result of higher component prices.
