Samuel Lino was one of the surprises of the last season with At. Madrid. The winger, formerly of Gil Vicente, who earned his place in Simeone’s starting eleven, gave an interview to ‘Marca’ where he discussed the new season with the colchoneros, the battle for titles, and also João Félix’s situation.
“He [João Félix] is a great player, but on that matter [his departure] I leave it to him to decide his career. Of course, he has a lot of quality and we always want players like him to stay with us, but in the end, I don’t have much to say because I am not the one controlling his career. It’s also not something we usually talk about; I leave him comfortable and try to respect him. We talk about other topics, and I hope that what happens in his career is good,” confessed the 24-year-old Brazilian.
At. Madrid, which finished in 4th place in the Spanish league last season, continues to renew its squad and invest in young talents like Riquelme, Pablo Barrios, and Samuel Lino, something that the winger believes is a sign of confidence and that the colchoneros are doing everything to bring titles back.
“I see that the club has given me importance. Not that they are building a project around me, because neither I nor anyone, not even the legends who have passed, are greater than At. Madrid. The club is doing everything, and these signings, like the rest, are for the team, not for me or another player. It’s for the good of Atlético, to strengthen the squad and pursue great achievements.”
After a season in which he was one of the revelations for the colchoneros, Samuel Lino hopes this will be an even better season and has a goal in mind. “I want this to be the most important season, but I’m not putting pressure on it. Everyone imagines things going well, and it would be incredible if this step was the best for me, but if not, it’s okay; that’s life. We always think and want everything to go well, which is why last year I said we would win a title, but it didn’t happen and now it’s about continuing to work to achieve it.”
