A man was hospitalized Sunday after a shooting outside an apartment complex on San Antonio’s West Side, and a neighbor’s pit bull was also struck by a stray bullet, according to the San Antonio Police Department. The incident, which occurred just after 11:30 a.m. in the 2900 block of Colt Drive, is currently under investigation.
Details of the Shooting
Police responded to reports of a shooting at an apartment complex courtyard where three men were gathered at a picnic table. A black pickup truck carrying four individuals reportedly pulled up to the scene, and a male suspect exited the vehicle and began firing a pistol at the three men. The suspect then allegedly retrieved a rifle and continued shooting before fleeing the scene with the other occupants of the truck.
One of the men was struck by gunfire and transported to a local hospital for treatment. His condition is currently unknown.
Stray Bullet Injures Neighbor’s Pet
The violence extended beyond the intended targets. A stray bullet penetrated a nearby wall and struck a neighbor’s pit bull in the leg. According to police, the injured dog was taken to a veterinarian and is expected to make a full recovery. This incident highlights the indiscriminate nature of gun violence and the potential for harm to innocent bystanders.
Ongoing Investigation
As of now, additional information regarding the shooting remains limited. The San Antonio Police Department has stated that the investigation is ongoing, and authorities are actively pursuing leads to identify and apprehend the suspect and other individuals involved.
