San Antonio Spurs Acquire Reggie Bullock in Three-Team Sign and Trade

San Antonio has been making waves in the trade market this summer, and their latest move involves a three-team sign and trade with the Dallas Mavericks and Boston Celtics. The Spurs are set to acquire veteran wing Reggie Bullock and an unprotected 2030 pick swap from the Mavericks, allowing Dallas to make room for the acquisition of Grant Williams from the Celtics.

According to reports from The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Grant Williams is set to join the Mavericks on a lucrative 4-year $54 million contract. In return, the Celtics will receive three second-round picks (2024, 2025, and 2028). The exact details of the picks involved in the deal are still being finalized.

For the Spurs, the addition of Reggie Bullock adds another experienced 3&D veteran wing to their roster. Bullock, who is entering his 15th NBA season, has proven himself as a reliable catch and shoot player. In the previous season, he averaged 7.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, and shot an impressive 38% from beyond the arc on 5 attempts per game.

Bullock has one year and $10.49 million left on his contract, which will make him a free agent in the summer of 2024. With the acquisition of Bullock, the Spurs now exceed the NBA’s salary floor of $122.42 million, with a total team salary of $129.88 million. The salary cap for the upcoming 2023-24 NBA season is set at $136.021 million.

The Spurs currently have 17 players with partially guaranteed deals on their roster, excluding Sir’Jabari Rice (two-way contract) and Sidy Cissoko (contract TBD). While they can bring as many players as they want into training camp, they will need to trim their roster to 15 players with three two-way slots by the start of the season. It remains to be seen if San Antonio has any more moves in store before the season begins.

This latest trade showcases the Spurs’ active involvement in reshaping their roster for the upcoming season. It will be exciting to see how the acquisitions of Reggie Bullock, along with previous additions Cedi Osman and Lamar Stevens, contribute to the team’s success on the court.
