San Esteban: inauguration of the first Center for Environmental Education and Composting

This week they inaugurated the Center for Environmental Education and Community Composting (CEMAC), located in La Ermita Park. The facility is intended to provide knowledge and techniques in various areas of the preservation of our environment for the training of agents of change.

The venue, located in the renowned La Ermita park, will be a space for the community, where they will develop free and inclusive modules on forestry and cultivation, with segments for orchards, composting and interactive classes on environmental care and recycling.

“We are happy to finally inaugurate this environmental education center, in such an emblematic place in San Esteban as Parque La Ermita is. I want to thank the municipal council for supporting us in this loan so that the land could be used by the NGO to be able to work on these issues with our children,” said Mayor Christian Ortega.

For his part, Sebastián Ahumada, founder and director of Cemac, qualified this initiative positively, affirming that, “this center comes to fulfill the dream of several Sanestebinos and personally mine of providing a space to create agents of change in the new generations, who are the ones who come to support our objective”.

In this regard, the Seremi del Medio Ambiente, Hernán Ramírez, pointed out that “being able to reduce this waste and transform it into compost helps us reduce methane emissions and with that move forward and meet the country’s climate change objective, finally this initiative It is in line with what the government is looking for.”

This center will be a space to promote citizen participation, as well as to strengthen environmental education in the commune of San Esteban on the long road to adaptation to climate change.
