BOLZANO. The works to strengthen the building have been completed San Floriano hydroelectric power station in Egna, managed by the company SF Energy Srl, 50% owned by Alperia and 50% by the Dolomiti Energia Group. The intervention increased the energy production, installed power and safety of the plant, in compliance with the provisions contained in the ProvinceS concession regulations.
started in 2020 and completed in 2024, the upgrade involved the renewal of the machinery and the improvement of the safety and management of the plant, with a total investment of 27 million of euros. The activities were coordinated by Alperia’s Engineering & Consulting, which followed the entire process, from design to commissioning and testing, while the operational management of the plant, which remained partially in operation during the works, was entrusted to the technicians of the Dolomiti Energia Group. The project obtained recognition for access to national incentives provided by the Energy Services Manager (GSE).
The historic San Floriano power station, built in the 1950sis one of the most important power plants in the region, with an average annual production of 480 GWh. Fed by the water of the avisio streamin the Stramentizzo dam basin, uses a jump of 570 meters to generate energy through three 66 MW turbine-alternator groups, before returning the water to the Adige river. The main interventions included the replacement of the turbines, the renewal of the generators, the automation systems, the general services and the safety valves, and also the painting of the penstock, which is essential for maintaining high efficiency of the plant.
Furthermore, during 2025, the existing transformers will be replaced by three new latest generation devices. It was crucial to minimize production losses by carrying out much of the work in the winter months, when the flow of the Avisio stream is lower. Thanks to the upgrade, it is expected that the San Floriano power plant will increase production by approximately 15 million kWh per yearequal to the needs of 6,000 families, helping to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 10,000 tons per year.
