In a surprising move, the 49ers released Hyder on Friday to make room for edge rusher Randy Gregory, acquired in a trade with the Denver Broncos. However, Gregory will not be active for Sunday night’s game, according to coach Kyle Shanahan. Gregory visited Santa Clara for a physical and to meet teammates and coaches before returning to Denver. He is scheduled to rejoin the 49ers on Monday.
Hyder had been active for the first four games of the season, registering one sack and playing 59 defensive snaps. Bryant, on the other hand, contributed 16 snaps against the Steelers in Week 1, providing pressure on the quarterback but failing to record a tackle.
In injury news, running back Elijah Mitchell has been ruled out for the game due to a knee injury. Mitchell’s absence opens the door for Christian McCaffrey, Jordan Mason, and Ty Davis-Price to take on the running back duties on Sunday night.
Furthermore, offensive lineman Jon Feliciano is listed as “questionable” due to a concussion sustained during the team’s Week 4 victory over the Cardinals. His availability for the game remains uncertain at this time.
