On November 5, the “San Francisco Marathon”a race organized by Athletica Vaticana with the aim of “uniting sport, friendship and fraternity under Franciscan values.”
More than 1,600 runners will gather in San Francisco’s hometown to tour iconic sites in the saint’s life. The marathon has a total distance of 42,195 kilometers, although the organization also offers the possibility of participating in the 10-kilometer modality, and even on a route that they have named “Come with me” (Come with me), designed especially for families who love sports running and athletes with disabilities.
The start of the race will be from the city of Assisi and will end in front of the Basilica of Santa María de los Ángeles. This will be the first edition of the event which, according to its official website, “will be the culmination of a long organizational work started in 2017.”
