The businessman from Las Ventas is a manager of dreams who suffers sleeplessness so that everything fits and goes well.

There is a literature of years regarding the sensations experienced by bullfighters, ranchers and even fans, when the posters of the San Isidro fair come out. There is, however, no literature whatsoever on the sensations experienced by a businessman, in this case a server and Simn Casas, my friend and partner. Bullfighters risk a lot, among other things life and prestige, the farmer is playing to continue in his market, the fan puts his love and passion at stake. They all think about the fair, counting back on the calendar, when the posters are announced. But the businessman also counts the days. We do not risk our lives, of course, or other similar things. However, very hard work is at stake that ends up fitting the pieces so that all the dreams of bullfighters, ranchers and fans come true. And that is our great concern, which, of course, also makes us lose sleep. Because, somehow, the businessman is in charge of making the dreams, feelings, and passions of all the aforementioned actors come true. Choose shortlists, days, bulls, so that everything fits, so that it flows in the best possible way and the dreams of others are fulfilled. Somehow, those dreams of all, are part of the dream and even the sleeplessness of the businessman.

Every businessman who claims to be one, and even more so in Las Ventas and much more so in San Isidro, loses part of his peace and lives the months with his days wrapped in doubt of his own effectiveness. If it could have been done better. If one day you should have worked a few more hours. A way of pushing yourself to the maximum in keeping with the demands of Las Ventas. And this time, the sleeplessness began a long time ago, around February 1, when the posters were announced at the San Isidro Gala. As entrepreneurs, we have to accept all kinds of criticism. There will always be talk of absences at fairs where everyone is never there or where others will think that some are there more times than they deserve. That is part of the landscape forever. We have received criticism for releasing season tickets and tickets much earlier than was traditionally done. And, of course, because of the new pricing policy. They are business bets that are made with one goal: to improve. Improve so that those dreams and sleeplessness of bullfighters, ranchers and fans come true, that they make sense. Improve to close the best fair, with the best posters, there for the days of Christmas. Work more, work earlier, put bullfighting in the same markets as the great leisure proposals. If someone asks me if the first objective of an entrepreneur is economic profitability, I will answer yes. The question is that this profitability must be directed towards everyone. Not just for the company. If the management is good from the economic point of view, the bullfighter improves, whose dream is sharpened because he improves his cache. It improves the farmer and, consequently, the satisfaction of the public. Therefore, the businessman is a manager of chance, of dreams, of passions, of luck, which we try to order with time, with structure, with work and anticipation.

We cannot make a bull charge, but we can close his participation soon, so that he can be handled knowing that he is going out into the ring at Las Ventas. We cannot fight for the bullfighters, but we can encourage them to plan their heart and race ahead of their parade. And to the public to help you plan your life, vacations, budget and leisure. But there is more. Something that no businessman other than the one from Madrid knows. All bullfighters want to fulfill the dream of doing the parade at the fair. This is a show where the performers call you to risk their lives. A gesture of loyalty and courage that, personally, causes me the hardest and most indescribable feeling. I can never be oblivious to these human desires that do not exist in any profession, where this request is as true as it is painful. Above all, when one cannot fulfill the wish of a man who wants to risk his life.

The one that begins now is a great fair. Not so much because there are very good posters, an obvious and objective question if I may say so, but because it is a fair made with patience, time, precision and love. That is our business work, beyond throwing dice into the air and putting three bullfighters.

I don’t think there is a single bullfighting businessman who doesn’t have a love for bullfighting. In my case, it is a condition from long before I entered this world. That is why I feel that this restlessness, born of responsibility and the desire that what has been done with work and care turns out well, is justified. What’s more, without these fears or fears or concerns that we have been dealing with since February, I would be irresponsible. Since I became an entrepreneur, I have not seen a bullfight again to enjoy it with the tranquility that I lived when I was just another fan. For this reason, I believe that all of us, in some way, do the parade in Las Ventas. We all play a lot. I want the fair to be successful. May the fan be happy because the bulls have charged and the bullfighters have triumphed. Question that will make the dreams for other squares and other places multiply and the hopes of bullfighting grow. With respect to mere economic management, at the end of San Isidro it will have been the public who has passed judgment on our mistakes, which we will undoubtedly have made, and on the successes, which, hopefully, will be a lot. Good luck for all of you.
