After the applause of the public and critics, ‘Suro’ begins to receive awards. The 2022 San Sebastian Film Festival has announced some of the official awards that will be presented at tonight’s gala. Among them, the Irizar Basque Film Award, which has been awarded to the first feature film by Mikel Gurrea from San Sebastian and which is a candidate for recognition by the jury of the Zinemaldia Official Section.

‘Suro’, starring Vicky Luengo and Pol López, has also won the Fipresci award from the International Federation of Film Press. The Basque Screenwriters Association has awarded the script written by Mikel Gurrea and Francisco Kosterlitz, based on the experience that Gurrea himself had years ago when he spent a season in the cork industry in Catalonia. From there came the story of Helena and Iván, who set out to build a new life in the cork oak forests, but their different views on how to live on earth emerge, challenging their future as a couple.

The Donostia Hiria Audience Award at Zinemaldia 2022 went to ‘Argentina 1985’, by Santiago Mitre. The film, starring Ricardo Darín, is inspired by the true story of prosecutors Julio Strassera and Luis Moreno Ocampo, who in 1985 dared to investigate and persecute the bloodiest military dictatorship in Argentine history.
