“When supply chains fail, society as a whole suffers the consequences.” This is how Pedro Sánchez justified this Friday the need to strengthen the autonomy of the European industry in the face of the threats of crisis and protectionism in recent years.

The acting President of the Government, accompanied by Vice President Teresa Ribera and Ministers Albares, Rodríguez, Planas and Gómez, outlined at the CEOE headquarters some of his proposals to strengthen European strategic autonomy. They are included in a document prepared by the National Foresight and Strategy Office, directed by Diego Rubio, and titled Resilient EU2030, a roadmap to boost the competitiveness and resilience of the European Union. More than 250 experts and 80 ministries from the 27 Member States, in addition to the European Commission and the Council of the EU, have participated.

Although the United States and China “are adjusting their value chains to become more self-sufficient”, global trade has increased, according to Sánchez, who has opted for “the global economy to remain open and Europe to retain its leadership position.”

Sectors that the Government considers strategic

Sánchez has listed the need to protect the industry in strategic sectors such as energy or health, and to focus on goods and services in which Europe is already competitive, such as artificial intelligence, wind turbines or organic fertilizers.

He has defended the need to opt for “green solutions” that reduce external dependence and transform the productive fabric: “those who say that the ecological transition is going to make us poorer are wrong, it is going to make us much more competitive and much more resilient.” “, he declared.

In parallel, Sánchez has proposed “reforming and strengthening” multilateral institutions such as the WTO, the IMF or the World Bank, which “have problems to solve” but which are necessary and, therefore, it is necessary to modernize them to serve “countries that today “They don’t feel heard.”
