The incident of the farmers protesting their demands has created a stir.

Farmers are suddenly protesting in front of Kovilpatti Assistant District Collector’s office in Thoothukudi district. The protest was led by Tamil Farmers Union President Narayanasamy. In this case, in Marthandampatti sand quarry, sand is being extracted in excess by machines in tipper trucks. Due to this, agriculture is affected due to depletion of ground water and the farmers are protesting to cancel the right of sand quarrying.

They also submitted a petition to the Assistant District Collector Mahalakshmi. After the assistant district collector Vlathikulam tehsildar and officials promised to investigate and take action, the protesting farmers dispersed from there.
