Sandeep Dhaula from Punjab says, “Birds have no doctor, people filter water and drink it, if they fall ill they go to the doctor, but there is nothing for the birds.” And with this concern, he has been working for the last 9 years to build houses for these voiceless birds, arrange their food and water and plant trees.

To date he has installed around 70,000 nests across the country. And this process began in 2002 when his own permanent home was built. He noticed that the birds were gradually decreasing, then he asked the elders of the village why these birds were decreasing, the elders told that earlier the birds were breeding in mud houses and that they would make their homes in the holes of the big trees.
Now many houses have become permanent, trees have started being cut, so these birds are not able to breed, so Sandeep started making nests. Many people even told him that he was making the birds lazy by setting up nests, but Sandeep would explain to people that he was just giving the birds a place and that they themselves make the nests. The Sands also plant lush plants so the birds can find straws to make nests.

As a result of Sandeep’s efforts, bird nests are now built on every pillar of every house and house in his village in Punjab and the number of birds has increased exponentially. True, it is only because of bird lovers like Sandeep that the friendship between humans and birds continues even today.
