Thiruvananthapuram: Leading film playback singer Sangeetha Sachith has passed away. He was 46 years old. He died at his sister’s house in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday morning while undergoing treatment for kidney disease. The cremation will be held at 3 pm at the Thycaud Peace Gate. She has sung in over 200 films in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada and made her Tamil debut with ‘Nalaitheerppi’.

‘Water and Love’ sung in ‘Mr. Romeo’ under the music direction of AR Rahman became a big hit. The song ‘Ambilipoovattam Ponnuruli’ from Grihalakshmi Productions’ ‘Ennam Swantham Janakikutty’ was sung for the first time in Malayalam music. Notable songs include ‘Odathandil Thalam Kottum’ from ‘Pazhashiraja’, ‘Dhoom Dhoom Dhooreyo’ from ‘Rakkilippatti’, ‘Alare Govinda’ from ‘Kakkakuyili’ and ‘Thalam Poyi Tappum Poyi’ from ‘Ayyappan and Koshi’. The theme song of ‘Kuruthi’ was last sung in Malayalam.

KB Sundarambal’s immortalized ‘Jnanapazhathe Pizhinthu’ made the music famous for its immense ability to sing in a way reminiscent of their voice. The then Chief Minister Jayalalithaa witnessed Sangeetha singing this hymn at the Tamil Nadu Government Film Awards ceremony and presented a gold necklace of 10 pawans around her neck.

He has sung for over 100 audio cassettes in Malayalam and Tamil. He is also known as a Carnatic musician and has performed with all the leading singers abroad. He is also the music director of the movie “Kitchen Work”.

Sangeetha, daughter of VG Sachith and Rajamma, who died in Kottayam Nagampadam Eera, settled in Chennai. Aparna is the only daughter. Siblings: Swapna Shyamaprasad and Smitha Anil.
