I had a friend, who turned out not to be one, who said that Galician was a dialect, but not Catalan or Basque. The rows that I got into with him were anthological, until fed up with his closure, I reminded him that “ignorance was the mother of all evil.”

I did not know then that this reasoning had been coined by François de Rabelais in the 16th century. And look, five centuries have passed, and the world is still populated by ignoramuses.

And here I am going to make a clarification: ignorant is not the one who does not have university studies, although that institution should be the temple of knowledge. It is not so, or at least it is not a guarantee that it is so.

There I met people like my former friend, who were very smart —with a great IQ— but who, on the other hand, were highly ignorant. This was determined by his narrow-mindedness, of course, and by considering Madrid the navel of the world.

Look if it hasn’t rained since Rabelais until now, and we’re still locked in the closure: now it turns out that there is an ultra group that pays a lot of money to hang posters renaming Galician towns in Spanish.

Let me explain: Sanxenjo instead of Sanxenxo, Oh, it hurts the eye just looking at it. But exactly what is the problem? What is in Galician? What is X wearing? Well, what nonsense, look that they do not say Shakira, she (she in English) or DiverXo without blushing.

Look for this campaign not to go unnoticed, using provocation, which as you should know is one of the best marketing tools that exist. And in that sense: mission accomplished. But I say: is this campaign only in Galicia, or also in Catalonia and the Basque Country?

Hablamos Español is going to turn out that, in addition to longing for past times, he suffers from the same evil as my former friend: ignorance. And that, like the wall of Lugo, is a World Heritage Site.
