| Sania and her team advance to the second round

Melbourne: India’s Sania Mirza and US ‘Rajiv Ram advanced to the second round of the Australian Open tennis grand slam mixed doubles.

They defeated Serbia’s Alexandra Krunich and Nicola Kazic in the first round. Score: 6-3, 7-6 (3). Rajeev Ram is the reigning champion in mixed doubles. Last season, Rajeev and Barbora Kryzhikova of the Czech Republic won. Sania and Rajeev won the match by 69 minutes yesterday. Sania had announced yesterday that she was bidding farewell to her career at the end of this season. India’s Rohan Bopanna and Croatia’s Darija Jurak Schreiber will play in the first round of the mixed doubles tomorrow.
