Former selector Saba Karim questioned Suryakumar Yadav’s continuous failure in ODIs. Saba Karim’s words came after the player became a golden duck in both matches of the ODI series against Aussies.
Karim openly said that Suryakumar can never be played at No. 4 in the ODI World Cup, even though he has the deep support of captain Rohit Sharma.
He added that Sanju Samson, who has better figures than Suryakumar in ODIs in the current scenario, can be tried at number four.
‘Who will replace Suryakumar at number four? The names of Rajat Patidar and Sarfaraz Ahmed come to mind. But both are injured.
Sanju Samson can be tested at number 4 for sure. But it is not clear whether Sanju is injured. Or if Sanju is fit, the star can be considered. It is imperative to find the best players at number four.
Shreyas Iyer will play at number four if he returns from injury. Iyer will be number four in the World Cup as well.
Suryakumar has been tried at number 4 but he has not been able to perform well. It remains a question mark that the excellence that T20 brings out cannot be brought out in ODIs. It amazes me how he fades in ODIs even when he is No. 1 in T20Is.
Surya’s performance in T20 is what motivates Rohit to bring him into the team. But it cannot be assumed that Rohit will think like that in the World Cup,’ Saba Karim added.
Former Indian player and Ranji King Wasim Jaffer also demanded that Sanju be included in the team instead of Suriya. Wasim Jaffer said it would never be a bad decision to replace Suryakumar Yadav with Sanju in the series-clinching third ODI.
Let’s sympathize with Suryakumar who was unable to face Mitchell Starc’s two best balls. But Suryakumar should have foreseen that Starc would be able to bowl in all these ways.
Sanju Samson replacing Suryakumar in the 3rd ODI is not a bad option. Although he has had few opportunities, he has done well for India. But everything will depend on the decisions of the team management,’ said Wasim Jaffer.
