THIRUVANANTHAPURAM ∙ Kerala superstar Sanju Samson is battling to overcome injury at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru as he embarks on yet another cricket battle in Kariyavattam. Sanju, who was ruled out of the T20I series against Sri Lanka with an injury, was not included in the ODI and T20I series against New Zealand.
Sanju, who was part of the Twenty20 team against Sri Lanka, suffered a knee injury after falling while fielding in the first match. Although the injury was not serious, due to bruises and swelling, he was removed from the team and prescribed treatment and rest. Physiotherapy and exercises are now being done at NCA. Three weeks rest is required. Sanju will return home only after regaining his fitness.
The injury came when he was almost a permanent member of the Indian Twenty20 team. Jitesh Sharma, who was included in the team instead of Sanju in the series against Sri Lanka, has also been retained as the wicketkeeper for the series against New Zealand.
