by time news

Jaipur: Despite rumors and speculations that the Indian Premier League (IPL) team will leave before the 15th season, it has been reported that Malayalee player Sanju Samson will remain with the Rajasthan Royals. According to various national media reports, Sanju, who captained the team last season, has been retained by the Rajasthan Royals. Sanju is the first player to be retained by Rajasthan ahead of the mega star auction of the IPL 2022 season. Twenty-seven-year-old Sanju was retained by Rajasthan for Rs 14 crore each season. Sanju will be the captain of the team for the coming season as well.

November 30 is the last date to submit to the IPL authorities the list of players each team intends to retain ahead of the star auction for the IPL 2022 season. Prior to this, Sanju was the first player to be retained by Rajasthan. According to reports, Rajasthan intends to retain two of the remaining three places, along with two youngsters – Englishman Jose Buttler, Joffre Archer and Liam Livingston – and youngster Jaiswal.

Sanju will be joining the Rajasthan Royals for the first time ahead of the 2018 IPL season. At that time, Sanju was brought to the team through a Rajasthan star auction for Rs 8 crore. Then last season, Steve Smith was dropped and Sanju was promoted to captain. Despite the absence of the likes of Joffre Archer and Ben Stokes, Rajasthan could not make it to the play – offs. Sanju scored 484 runs at a strike rate of over 137.

Apart from Sanju, Rajasthan’s highest paid players are Ben Stokes (Rs 12.5 crore), Joffre Archer (Rs 7.2 crore) and Jose Butler (Rs 4.4 crore). Archer was named player of the tournament in 2020, but was ruled out of action last season due to injury. Rajasthan will be looking to retain the super-fast bowler this time around if his fitness is not a villain.

It is learned that Rajasthan will also retain Jose Butler. Meanwhile, the case of super all-rounder Ben Stokes is unclear. Although Stokes, who retired from cricket last year, has returned to the field to start training, it is doubtful the Royals will have the money to keep him.

According to IPL rules, each team can retain a maximum of four players. In itself there can be a maximum of two foreign players. The total allocation for these four players is `42 crore. The team, which spends Rs 42 crore, is facing a crisis where it can later invest a maximum of Rs 48 crore in the star auction.
