Lucknow: Sanju Samson’s brilliant innings in the first ODI against South Africa is being showered with accolades. Team India’s legends like Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh and Mohammad Kaif came to congratulate Sanju.
Veeru, the legendary opener, praised the efforts of Sanju, who wiped away the rain of wickets after the rain in Lucknow and took the team to victory. Virender Sehwag tweeted that Sanju played a very good innings despite Team India losing due to bad luck. The reaction of Harbhajan Singh, one of India’s best spinners of all time, highlighted that Sanju brought the team to victory. Former player Muhammad Kaif’s note was that Sanju batted aggressively and impressively and deserves appreciation. Along with them, Irfan Pathan, Ian Bishop and others came forward to congratulate Sanju.
India lost the first ODI against South Africa by 9 runs, but Sanju Samson grabbed the attention with his highest individual score of his ODI career. In a match reduced to 40 overs due to rain, India, who batted towards a target of 250 runs, managed to score only 240 runs for eight wickets. After the dismissal of Shikhar Dhawan(4), Shubman Gill(3), Ruturaj Gaekwad(19) and Ishan Kishan, Sanju came to the crease in the sixth over and scored an unbeaten 86* off 63 balls including 9 fours and 3 sixes. Apart from Sanju’s struggle, Shreyas Iyer scored 50 runs and Shardul Thakur scored 33 runs but the team could not win.
