Sant Hilari Sacalm Town Hall will reopen on Artisan Turning Center on February 11 with one open day. The center has been remodeled to become a more ambitious project that seeks to raise awareness of the lathe and history of the trade linked with Sant Hilari Sacalm. In this sense, the new center will have a museum area on the history of the turnery and burnt wood in Sant Hilari. On the other hand, there will also be one workshop area which can be used by up to eight artisans. To choose those who will be able to use the facilities, the city council has opened one call to have one of the eight workshop spaces.

The remodeling of the Center Artesà de Torneria is part of the Coop’Art project, a european initiative that promotes the works of handicrafts in Catalonia and Northern Catalonia. For this reason, the new center will have this workshop space open to eight artisans linked to the world of wood. Self-employed people or small businesses can apply.

The initiative of the Sant Hilari Sacalm Town Council seeks to support small artisan wood companies and help the professionalization of this office. Through the workshop, the council recognizes the difficulties artisans have in getting the pieces out and, at the same time, assessing the added value of these productions. In this shared workshop, training will be held for the eight selected so that they can adapt to the new market opportunities.
