Matheus Melo suffered a shoulder injury against Retrô (Photo: Rafael Vieira/DP) After the 0-0 draw with Retrô last Thursday (15) at the Arruda stadium, in a delayed game of the 4th round of the Pernambucano Championship, Santa Cruz is now focusing on the final two rounds of the 1st phase of the State Championship. On Monday (19), against Afogados, and on Saturday (24) against Central at Lacerdão, in Caruaru. In the re-presentation of the squad this Friday (16), attention will be focused on two players: midfielder Matheus Melo and striker Thiaguinhho, tricolor’s offensive highlights of the season. Both left the match against Retrô injured. Matheus Melo was substituted in the first half, with a collarbone problem. Thiaguinho suffered a blow to his knee at the end of the opening stage. Both were taken to the hospital during half-time, as Santa announced shortly after the match.
“We inform you that, after being taken for exams during the break, it was found that Matheus Melo had an acromioclavicular dislocation and, in Thiaguinho, after an x-ray, no fracture or fissure was found. Both will be under observation and will be reevaluated daily until they are released”, Santa Cruz announced.
Doctor João Paulo Lafayette gave more details about the condition of the two athletes. “Matheus Melo had an injury to his shoulder, an acromioclavicular dislocation. In fact, it is when the clavicle has a slight rise. This hurts, it bothers him and he will continue to be observed and reevaluated daily so that we can release the player. Thiaguinho had an injury to his knee, but he had an X-ray, no signs of a fracture and he is also following the observation and we are reevaluating on a daily basis”, explained the midfielder.
CLASSIFICATION
Cobra Coral is in fourth place, with 13 points, one less than Retrô, third place, with 14. Central is in fifth, with 11 points. Next, Afogados and Maguary have seven points and Petrolina has six. Whoever ends up ahead in this 1st phase guarantees one of the places in Series D of 2025. Remembering that Sport (leader with 18) and Náutico (2nd, with 17), which are in Series B and C of the Brazilian Championship respectively, do not participate in this contested for places in the Fourth Division. The other place in Série D will go to the team that goes furthest in the knockout stages of Pernambucano, once again excluding Sport and Náutico.
