Santiago Taboada signs Commitment for Peace promoted by the Mexican Episcopate

The candidate for the Head of Government for the “Va X La CDMX” coalition, Santiago Taboadahas signed the “Commitment to Peace: Public policy strategies for peacebuilding”, promoted by the Conference of the Mexican Episcopate and Intercontinental University.

During the event, Taboada emphasized the need to recognize and address security problems in Mexico City, especially the alarming 300 percent increase in the number of missing people in the last six years.

For the candidate, the construction of a security and peace agenda implies a close link between civil society and the government.

He emphasized the importance of social policies focused on the rescue of child care, the return of full-time schools and support for women head of the family, considering that these measures are fundamental to strengthen the social fabric and promote peace in the city.

Regarding security, Santiago Taboada highlighted the need to strengthen security institutions to combat crimes such as extortion, which are linked to human trafficking and organized crime.

He proposed an autonomous and independent justice system, focused on the needs of the victims and not on the political agenda of the government in power.

The candidate also addressed the issue of the prison system, noting that it has been neglected for years, allowing criminal activities to be perpetrated from within.

He proposed providing opportunities to young people and women to prevent them from falling into crime, offering support for housing and entrepreneurship as part of his campaign axes.

In relation to human rights, Taboada criticized the Human Rights Commission for protecting the government instead of the victims, calling it unacceptable that the victims are responsible for a political plot.

He stressed the importance of recognizing and listening to victims, and pledged to strengthen the commission so that it truly defends citizens’ rights.

Questioned about the government’s failed actions in terms of security, Taboada reiterated his opposition to militarization of the police and proposed strengthening the security areas, transferring control of the C5 to the Security Secretariat and granting powers to financial intelligence.

He emphasized his commitment to pursuing criminals and combating organized crime to ensure the safety of all citizens.
