Malappuram: Karnataka defeats reigning champions Services in Santosh Trophy Football Championship They defeated Karnataka Services by an unbeaten margin. In the 38th minute, Ankit Ugran converted a pass from Solaimalai from the right wing. With this, Karnataka is with Odisha in the group with four points with a win and a draw from two matches. Both have equal points and equal goal average. The Services have three points from two matches with two defeats and one win. With this defeat, the Services’ semi-final qualification faded.
The first half
Manjeri Payyanad Stadium witnessed a boring first half except for Karnataka’s goal. Karnataka got a chance in the 15th minute. Malayalee player Siju Header tried a pass from Prashant Kilinka in the corner kick but could not find the target. Opportunity for services in the 24th minute. Ronaldo Singh’s ball from in front of the box goes inside the box and hits the post but is caught by the goalkeeper. Services got the next chance in the 28th minute. Lytton Shill, who received a pass from Christopher between two defenders from midfield, jumped forward. The right post was hit on the goal but the goalkeeper hit it beautifully. Karnataka took the lead in the 38th minute. Ankit Ugran converted a pass from Solaimalai from the right wing.
Second half
Services tried to equalize early in the second half. In the 58th minute, the attack went over the top of the bar. Deepak Singh’s header from another chance in the 66th minute went just wide of the post. In the 80th minute, Viknesh gave a free kick to the box. The referee called offside when the goalkeeper was knocked down and sent off. In the 86th minute, Services had a chance to score. Malayalee defender Amal Das hit the ball from the corner kick but the sovereign, who was standing on the goal line, hit the ball away.
