On this Tuesday (30th), São Paulo defeated Goiás 2-0 at MorumBIS in the first leg of the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil. The goals for the tricolor team were scored by Luciano and Calleri.
The first half began evenly, but São Paulo quickly started to dominate the offensive actions. Their attacking attempts against a very tight defense were limited, and the team relied on shots from outside the box, but without success. Welington and Ferreira were frequently involved on the left wing.
The clearest opportunities came in the final minutes of the first half. At the 36th minute, Welington found Lucas in the box, but the shot went wide. In added time, there were two more good chances. The first came from Luciano at 46, who with a volley from outside the area saw the ball just scrape the crossbar. At 49, Calleri managed to get the ball past the goalkeeper, but the opposing defender managed to clear it.
The Tricolor came into the second half determined to score, and it didn’t take long. Just 2 minutes in, after a good collective play, Erick crossed to Calleri in the box. Calleri’s shot was saved, but Luciano was opportunistic and scored from the rebound. At 35 minutes, Luiz Gustavo took a long shot, and the goalkeeper deflected it. Calleri seized the chance and didn’t miss, increasing the score.
The São Paulo team continued to attack and control the match. The opposing team had more difficulty in attacking, and São Paulo dominated possession, facing few dangers throughout the second half.
The Tricolor will be back in action on Saturday (3rd) to face Flamengo at 21:30 at MorumBIS, for the Brasileirão. In the Copa do Brasil, the return leg against Goiás is scheduled for the next Thursday (8th) at 20:00 at the Hailé Pinheiro stadium, Serrinha, in Goiânia (GO).
