Former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo plans to run in the New Patriotic Party parliamentary primaries for the 2028 elections, reversing her earlier exit and targeting the seat she lost in 2024.
Sarah Adwoa Safo announced on Thursday, October 22, 2026, that she will seek the New Patriotic Party’s mandate once the party releases its timetable and guidelines. The announcement follows consultations with party leadership, executives, and other stakeholders, alongside personal reflection on her commitment to the constituency.
Her decision follows the party’s loss of the seat to the National Democratic Congress and its current MP, Faustina Elikplim Akurugu, in the 2024 general election after Mike Oquaye Jnr. ran as the New Patriotic Party parliamentary candidate.
Safo Targets Dome-Kwabenya Return After 2024 Defeat
Safo represented Dome-Kwabenya for 12 years, building what was considered one of the New Patriotic Party’s safest seats. She won the constituency in 2012 with 63.75 per cent of the vote and improved to 67.99 percent in 2016. In 2020, she secured 75,041 votes against the National Democratic Congress candidate’s 52,262, though her vote share dipped to 58.68 percent.
Political friction emerged previously during her tenure. Although she eventually returned, the controversy placed her at odds with some colleagues.

Ahead of the 2024 primary, party delegates in January voted her out as the parliamentary candidate. She accepted the result as a setback and stated she would not contest the seat as an independent candidate.
National Democratic Congress Captures Dome-Kwabenya Seat
In December 2024, the National Democratic Congress took the seat for the first time since the constituency was created, with Faustina Elikplim Akurugu defeating the party’s replacement candidate.

Supporters Back Comeback for the 2028 Primaries
Safo’s declaration has met with reactions from local stakeholders and party supporters. The announcement drew backing from followers on social media urging her to reclaim the seat from the National Democratic Congress and its current MP, Faustina Elikplim Akurugu. Ebenezer Anokwah wrote: She has declared her intention to contest for the NPP Parliamentary Primaries to become the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency again.
