The Olympic vice-champion in Tokyo, was beaten in the -57 kg repechage final

Frenchwoman Sarah-Léonie Cysique, Olympic vice-champion in Tokyo, was beaten in the -57 kg repechage final on Tuesday at the World Judo Championships in Doha.

Cysique lost to Canadian Jessica Klimkait, world champion in 2021, by waza-ari during the Golden score.

The 24-year-old Frenchwoman was beaten in the quarter-finals by another Canadian Christa Deguchi, titled in 2019.

Cysique’s day had started with a diesel warm-up against Cuba’s Arnaes Odelin Garcia, then a convincing victory by ippon after having immobilized the German Pauline Starke.

In the third round, she had to go all the way to the Golden Score to dominate the Georgian Eteri Liparteliani.

«Today Sarah wasn’t as good as she can be. She missed a little bit of rhythm“said her trainer Séverine Vandenhende, recalling that Cysique had injured her knee in December and that she had not fought since.
