of Vera Martinella

Sarcoma a generic term for a tumor that grows in supporting tissues, such as connective tissue (so-called mesenchymal tissues) – explains Vittorio Quagliuolo, head of the Oncological Surgery and Sarcoma Surgery Unit at the Humanitas Institute in Milan -: these are tumors that generally develop in the muscles, subcutaneous tissue or bone. In practice, in addition to the bones, they affect muscles, cartilages, blood vessels, adipose tissue, which are throughout our body. They occur mainly in the limbs and trunk, more rarely in visceral organs. They are divided into more than 80 subtypes (or histological types) different from each other mainly for the degree of aggression, as well as for the site in which they develop.
