There are constant reports of rising cancer rates. But very few people have heard about Sari Cancer. Most of the people will be wondering what cancer has to do with sari. As the name suggests, this is a cancer caused by wearing a saree. Rather, the term Saree Cancer refers to the problem caused by tight clothing.

This is a condition that causes swelling in the body parts, especially around the waist, when tight clothes are worn on the body. In 1945, the term dothi cancer was coined similarly. This refers to the health problem caused by constantly wearing clothes that are tight on the body like saree, mundo, jeans etc.

In 2011, the Journal of the Indian Medical Association reported on this. Wearing a saree tight is said to cause waist dermatitis or skin lesions. Wearing such clothes including sarees for a long time can lead to waist dermatitis which can become serious later. Cancer affecting the waist is called Saree cancer.

This cancer is called squamous cell carcinoma. Wearing tight sarees, petticoats, mundus, jeans etc. causes continuous injuries and discomfort which later leads to cancer. At the same time, it is a very rare cancer.

The main symptoms of this cancer are red, itchy patches on the groin, which turn into sores, and swelling near the groin.

Although the name is Sari Cancer, experts say that Sari is not the villain here. A petticoat that is tight around the waist is the main problem. It rubs on the skin and causes wounds. So it is important to ensure that these are not tight enough to affect the skin while wearing them.

History

In 1945, physicians Khanolkar and Suryabai described a new type of cancer in which lesions on the skin later turn into cancer. They named it Dothi Cancer. Just like a saree, a mundum is a garment that wraps tightly around the waist. This is why the name Dothi Cancer came about. The term Sari Cancer was first used by Dr. Bombay Hospital. A team of doctors comprising AS Patil.
