Baghdad/Al-Masala Al-Hadath: The demonstrators, against the decision of the Minister of Construction and Housing, Benkin Rekani, threatened escalation if the decision to seize their agricultural lands and homes near the new Dora-Yusufiyah highway was not reversed.
The demonstrators considered that the minister is “playing with fire” and does not have the right to issue such decisions on lands that they have owned for decades with original titles.
On Friday, Member of the House of Representatives, Zaitoun Al-Dulaimi, called on the Minister of Construction and Housing, Benkin Rekani, not to adapt the law for personal interest, in reference to the decision to expropriate lands and houses near the Dora-Youssefiya highway.
Al-Dulaimi said that the Minister of Construction cannot adapt laws for his own benefit, explaining that these are the rights of citizens and cannot be infringed upon.
She added that the minister will be hosted inside Parliament to seek clarification regarding the decision to expropriate lands and houses near the Dora-Youssefiya road.
Dozens of residents of areas south of Baghdad adjacent to the new Al-Dora-Yusufiya highway demonstrated on Friday against the decision of the Minister of Construction and Housing, Benkin Rekani, to appropriate the lands and the floor near the road.
