The brother of the third president Serzh Sargsyan, Alexander Sargsyan, and members of his family did not appear at the Department for the Confiscation of Illegal Property of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Armenia.

As reported by Day.Az with reference to Armenian media, they are outside the country.

“Sargsyan’s representatives contacted the prosecutor’s office and reported that the family is not in Armenia. They must appear at the department on August 20,” the supervisory agency clarified.

Alexander Sargsyan, as well as his sons Hayk and Narek, came under close scrutiny from law enforcement agencies after the change of power in Armenia in 2018.

In June 2021, a capital court found Narek Sargsyan guilty of illegal possession of weapons, drugs and organizing the kidnapping of a person, for which he was sentenced to 5.5 years in prison.

Narek Sargsyan was hiding abroad, but was arrested in December 2018 in Prague with a passport in the name of Franklin Gonzalez, and was extradited to Armenia a year later. His younger brother Hayk was accused of attempted murder in 2007 and illegal possession of weapons, but the charges were later reclassified and the case was closed due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.
