This is a frontal criticism. In an interview with West France on August 22, Vadym Omelchenko, the Ukrainian ambassador to France, sees in the remarks made by the former French president Nicolas Sarkozy a communication operation coordinated by Russia.
In his latest book, “The Time of Combat”, the sequel to “The Time of Storms”, Sarkozy believes that Ukraine should appear as a bridge between Russia and Europe. And judges that the country of Volodymyr Zelensky must be neutral. In response, the ambassador considers that “these remarks, both in form and in substance, are not acceptable”. To discredit the words of the former head of state on the subject, the ambassador also recalled the business ties that unite Russia and the former French president and criticized his record on international politics: “The action of the former President of the Republic had the consequences for Georgia of losing 30% of its territory”.
But Omelchenko dwelt on a specific point. “To suggest that recognized international borders are subject to change could have a backfire effect and not just a Ukraine. It is curious to observe that comments similar to those of Nicolas Sarkozy have been made elsewhere in Europe, he wonders. For us, it is a synchronized communication operation. The ambassador thus casts a suspicion on the remarks of the ex-president who could, according to him, have been influenced behind the scenes by a Russian maneuver.
