Google has released Android 15 Developer Preview (DP) 2 for developers, which includes a feature responsible for satellite communications. This was reported by the iXBT portal, Day.Az reports with reference to Gazeta.ru.

The updated version of the operating system allows applications to detect the use of a satellite connection via the function “ServiceState.isUsingNonTerrestrialNetwork()”. In addition, Google says that support for satellite communications will also be implemented when sending standard SMS or MMS messages and via the RCS protocol.

However, Android 15 Developer Preview 2 also includes other significant improvements in device performance, smoothness, and security.

Android 15 testing is expected to have three stages with two releases for each, including the Developer Preview that came out in February and March. Now we have to wait for Beta in April and May, and Platform Stability in June and July. The full and final version of Android 15 should be released in late summer or early fall 2024 – first for Google Pixel smartphones.
