After Palestinians began to flee their tents in the city of Rafah in large numbers during the past 72 hours, with the continued Israeli bombing of the city crowded with displaced persons, new satellite images showed a significant decline in the number of white tents in the city adjacent to the Egyptian border.

According to pictures published by “Planet Labs”, it showed that the main camp in the center of Rafah, which includes thousands of tents, was full on May 5, but on May 8, the size of the camps decreased significantly, and a large number of tents disappeared since Tuesday, May 7, when the army requested… The Israelis evacuate the Palestinians in order to avoid a military operation in the area.

Some camps were located in United Nations schools, others were in open fields, or along roads for several months, but a large number of them disappeared, according to what was reported by the American CNN network.

Many Palestinians remain in the camps despite the Israeli army’s orders to leave, because there is no safe place to go.

This came as the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) confirmed on Friday that the number of displaced people from Rafah had risen to 110,000 with the intensification of Israeli bombing in the city.

She also added in a tweet on her account on the X platform, “With the intensification of the Israeli bombing on Rafah, forced displacement continues.” She continued, “It is estimated that about 110,000 people fled Rafah in search of safety.”

She pointed out that there is no safe place in the entire sector, which lives in horrific living conditions, stressing that “the only hope is an immediate ceasefire.”

This came after the agency reported yesterday that about 80,000 Palestinians have been displaced from Rafah since the sixth of this month, and it also warned that the entire sector does not have a safe place.

The Israeli army spokesman, Avichay Adraee, announced last Monday (May 6) that the army had asked those in some areas of Rafah to go to Khan Yunis, to avoid an imminent military operation. He warned the displaced against returning to the north or approaching the eastern and southern security fence and against returning north from the Gaza Valley, stressing that Gaza City is still a “dangerous fighting” zone.

The next day, the Israeli army announced its complete control over the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egyptian territory.

While thousands were displaced from the city during the past three days, the roads outside Rafah were crowded with crowds who left either on foot or in vehicles as part of a confused evacuation process filled with anxiety and panic.

It is noteworthy that many international organizations had repeatedly warned in the past of the miserable living conditions experienced by Rafah’s residents, and also confirmed that there are no safe areas for these civilians to take refuge in throughout the Strip.

While Israel has renewed its intention more than once to invade the city “to eliminate Hamas,” according to its claim.
