After 70 years of activity, the historic restaurant in Bensonhurst, south of Brooklyn, where John Travolta stops to get two slices of pizza in the famous film has closed its doors: the owner Frank Giordano has in fact decided to retire

Impossible to forget the beginning of Saturday Night Fever: while the opening credits are still rolling, Tony Manero – aka John Travolta – strolls on 86th street, while the Bee Gees’ Stayin’ Alive echoes in the background. At one point the protagonist stops at Lenny’s, where a diligent waitress (played by Travolta’s sister) serves him two slices of pizza, which he devours by piling them one on top of the other, then continuing to walk that cheeky gait that would have made him famous.

And for 70 years that Brooklyn pizzeria immortalized in one of the most iconic films in the history of cinema really existed, so much so that it became a real institution in Bensonhurst, as well as a must-see for tourists (the actor himself had returned to 2018, welcomed by hundreds of people). From Sunday 19 February for Lenny’s closed its doors permanently.

Having arrived at the age of 77, the historic owner, Frank Giordano, has in fact decided to retire and his daughter Josephine gave the news of the cessation of activity in a post on Facebook, where she also thanked customers and friends for these seven decades of unconditional loyalty. It’s finally time for him and me to enjoy our families, she wrote, thus bidding farewell to another piece of New York history. And not only that.
