The 50th season of Saturday Night Live was a smash hit, both commercially and critically, earning a combined 31 Emmy nominations. Now, all eyes are on Season 51 of the iconic sketch-comedy series. With a significant cast shake-up underway, many are wondering who will return and who is departing NBCS venerable late-night institution.

Heidi Gardner is leaving SNL after eight seasons, making her the longest-serving female cast member in Season 50.She joined the show in 2017 and became known for her impressions of figures like Dana Bash, Drew Barrymore, Kristi Noem, and Liz Cheney. Gardner’s tenure was marked by memorable moments, including a viral sketch in 2024 where she struggled to contain her laughter during a Beavis and Butt-Head bit.

Joining Gardner in her departure is Michael Longfellow, who is leaving after three years.He was a frequent presence at the “Weekend Update” desk, often delivering sharp impressions of figures such as Anderson Cooper, Rob Lowe, and Gavin Newsom. Longfellow previously commented on his workload, noting, “I work like 12 hours a week. When you love your job, it never feels like work.”

Emil Wakim, who joined as a featured player in 2024, announced on Aug.27 that he had been fired from the show. “I won’t be returning to SNL next year,” he posted on social media. “It was a gut-punch of a call to get, but I’m so grateful for my time there.” Wakim, the show’s first Lebanese-american cast member, made a notable impact with impressions of Luigi Mangione, Julius Caesar, and dracula.

Devon Walker also confirmed on Aug. 25 that he would not be returning for a fourth season. Reflecting on his time, Walker shared, “Me and the show did three years together, and sometimes it was really cool. Sometimes it was toxic as hell. But we did what we made the most of what it was, even amidst all of the dysfunction. We made a f–ked up lil family.” He added, “Just to be clear, this is good news! It was just time for me to do something different.” Walker was known for his impersonations of Michael Strahan, Frank ocean, Tim Scott, and Eric Adams.

‘Weekend Update’ Milestone

Colin Jost and Michael Che continue their historic run as the longest-serving duo in “Weekend Update” history. Having teamed up in the 40th season premiere, they recently concluded their 11th year together. Their predecessors at the desk include notable pairings like amy Poehler and Seth Meyers, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, and Jimmy Fallon and Tina Fey.
