Saudi and Greece have signed an agreement for a data network project connecting Europe and Asia. The signing took place during the visit of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to Greece. The two countries will also cooperate in military cooperation, energy, technology transfer and electricity cooperation.
The important agreements were signed during the visit of the Crown Prince and Deputy Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who arrived in Greece yesterday. MoUs were signed for cooperation in several areas related to the energy sector. The agreements will increase cooperation in areas such as renewable energy, access to electricity, electricity exports to Greece and Europe, clean hydrogen, oil and gas, and the petrochemical industry. MoUs were also signed for cooperation in mitigating the effects of climate change. These include reducing carbon emissions, recycling, low-carbon transport and capturing carbon directly from the air. The two countries also signed an agreement to lay an undersea data cable connecting Europe to Asia. This will be accomplished through the East to Med Data Corridor project, which will develop the MENA hub owned by Saudi Arabia’s STC and Greek Telecom.
There was also a discussion about the possibility of connecting Saudi power grids to provide cheap green energy to Europe. All the agreements are meant to warm the relationship between the two countries. The Crown Prince also visited the historical centers of Athens. The Crown Prince’s next visit is to France. Greece is also the first foreign trip of the Saudi crown prince after the G20 summit in Japan in 2019.
