Saudi Arabia allows more women to be employed as lawyers

The Ministry of Justice has allowed more women to serve as lawyers in Saudi Arabia. According to the Ministry, about 700 eligible women will be allowed to register newly. There are 1400 women lawyers practicing in the courts of different provinces in the country.

With 700 newly licensed women, the number of women advocates has increased to 2100. An e-portal service called Nijas has been made available to enroll as advocates. E-portal service can be availed for registration of license and renewal of registration. The Ministry stated that there is facility in Nijas for those who are training as lawyers and to transfer their training under new lawyers.

As of June 2021, there are 18000 lawyers in the country. On average, there is one lawyer per 2,000 people in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, the Ministry of Justice is preparing to register more qualified and trained people.
