Saudi Arabia announces the operation of the first gas storage project using processed injection technology

by times news cr

The Saudi Ministry of Energy announced the start of operation of the first natural gas storage project by injecting processed gas into the Hawiyah Unayzah reservoir.

She said on her account on the “X” platform, “The project aims to reproduce natural gas in the main gas network at a rate of two billion standard cubic feet per day, which contributes to enhancing meeting the increasing demand for energy in the Kingdom, especially during peak periods.”

The Ministry of Energy stated, “The project contributes to managing seasonal changes in demand, achieving the goals of the liquid fuel displacement program and reducing carbon emissions.”

The transformational program for liquid fuel displacement, which was launched by the Kingdom as part of Saudi Vision 2030, aims to displace one million barrels per day of liquid fuel through the utilities, industry and agricultural sectors by 2030.

Renewable energy and natural gas will be the chosen alternatives that enable the Kingdom to extract 50 percent of its electrical energy from renewable energy sources.

The Saudi Press Agency reported that the additional confirmed quantities amounted to 15 trillion standard cubic feet of gas and two billion barrels of condensate.

It should be noted that the quantities of resources in the Jafurah field are now estimated at approximately 229 trillion standard cubic feet of gas and 75 billion barrels of condensate, according to the agency.
