Jeddah: The Supreme Judiciary of Saudi Arabia has called upon the public to observe the sighting of the crescent moon at sunset on Thursday twenty-ninth of Ramadan. If it is confirmed that the new moon is visible on Thursday, this year will be only the twenty-ninth of Ramzan and Friday will be the first of Eid-ul-Fitr.

If the moonrise is not visible on Thursday, fasting on Friday will complete the 30th day of Ramzan and Saturday will be the 1st day of Eid-ul-Fitr.

The Supreme Judiciary said that those who see the moon with naked eyes or through binoculars should immediately inform the nearest court or judicial centers and get the moon sighting certified. Every opportunity should be taken to convey information to the court.

Referring to individual and collective efforts to see the new moon, the statement that such efforts were taught by the Prophet and are therefore fruitful in the sight of Allah encouraged the people in this regard.
