Saudi Arabia achieved the highest level of trust in the world, according to the 2024 Annual Trust Index report of Edelman, the leading global consulting and public relations company.
86 percent of citizens trust their government to make the necessary decisions to achieve national aspirations and goals. The report, in its 24th edition, also revealed that Saudi Arabia ranks high in the business confidence index, with 78 percent of all participants expressing confidence in the sector, and more than 80 percent expressing great confidence in the Kingdom’s leaders and scholars in managing and organizing innovation.
Despite growing global concerns about new legislation and emerging technology trends, the Kingdom recorded high levels of confidence at 56 percent, compared to all 28 countries surveyed.
According to the Edelman Trust Index, the Kingdom ranked among the world’s top countries in terms of trust in legislation related to artificial intelligence, surpassing the United States of America, which recorded 24 percent, France and Japan 23 percent, the United Kingdom 18 percent, Germany 27 percent, and the Republic of Korea 28 percent.
The report also noted high levels of confidence in clean energy and artificial intelligence in the Kingdom, which are vital elements of Saudi Vision 2030. Saudi Arabia achieved advanced positions in terms of confidence in regulated artificial intelligence technologies, with a rate of 68 percent for companies operating in the field of virtual and augmented reality, compared to the global average of 50 percent.
“This year’s Edelman Trust Barometer shows that innovation is a key player and a cornerstone of progress in Saudi Arabia, but the public also needs assurances that emerging technologies have been evaluated and regulated by the government and scientists, so they can understand the impact of these technologies on their lives and feel empowered to control them,” said Arndt-Jan Hesselink, President and CEO of Edelman Europe, Middle East and Africa. “I therefore emphasize the important role of effective communication in simplifying messages and increasing transparency to enhance trust in the management of innovation and emerging technologies.”
