“MBS” returns to the Élysée. Emmanuel Macron will meet Mohamed bin Salman, the crown prince of Saudi Arabia, on Friday in Paris, according to the official Saudi press, quoted by the Reuters news agency. The visit was also announced by Ludovic Pouille, French Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, on his Twitter account. In this message (in Arabic and English), he indicates that the appointment will take place on June 16, this Friday, reports BFM TV.

According Bloomberg, the two statesmen will discuss the international situation and bilateral relations. Apart from the meeting with the President of the Republic, Mohammed ben Salmane and his Saudi delegation should go to the “Summit for a new global financing pact”, scheduled for June 22 and 23 in Paris, reports the Reuters news agency. .

The previous official visit of the Saudi crown prince, in July 2022 to the Élysée, had sparked a controversy. It was the first time that Mohammad bin Salman had visited Europe, after the assassination of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018, in the Saudi Embassy in Türkiye.

“MBS” was very quickly suspected of being involved in this murder: the American intelligence agency has declassified a report in which it accuses Mohammed bin Salman of having “validated” the assassination. During his visit to France last summer, a few hours before his meeting with Emmanuel Macron, two NGOs filed a complaint in Paris against the Crown Prince, for complicity in torture and enforced disappearance in connection with the assassination of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
