Doha: Relations between Qatar and Saudi Arabia are warming up after a gap of a few years. The new decision is to start train services between the two countries. Local media reported that discussions have started regarding this. The talks began during the official visit of Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistics Salih bin Nasser Al Jazer to Doha.

During the discussion, the Chairman of the Saudi Transport General Authority, Dr. Rumaih Mohammed Al Rumaih and representatives of the Qatari Ministry of Transport. Ways to develop relations and cooperation between the two countries in various fields were analyzed during the discussion.

Visited the Doha Metro

Delegations from both countries, led by ministers, visited the Doha Metro and assessed its operations. Qatar Rail representatives briefed the Saudi delegation on the Metro’s operations. The visit was part of efforts to launch a train service between the two countries. With the realization of train service, travel and freight between the two countries will be easier.

Understanding to further strengthen cooperation

Saudi Minister Salih bin Nasser Al Jasser also met with Qatari Minister of State Jassim Al Sulaiti. The meeting also decided to further strengthen the ongoing historical and strategic ties between Saudi Arabia and Qatar in areas such as brotherhood, neighborhood relations and public affairs in the Gulf region. He hoped that the current visit would lead to greater cooperation and joint work between the two countries.

During his visit to Qatar, Saudi Transport and Logistics Minister Salih bin Nasser Al Jasser met with the Prime Minister of Qatar and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdul Aziz Al Thani. The two leaders hoped that the cooperation between the two countries would be further strengthened in the days to come. The three-and-a-half-year embargo imposed on Qatar by Egypt, Bahrain and the UAE, led by Saudi Arabia, has further strained relations between Saudi Arabia and Qatar. However, the agreement was reached at the Al Ula GCC summit in Saudi Arabia in January last year. Since then, relations between the two countries have grown stronger.
