The state oil company has warned that $250 is requested for the purchase of alleged shares. Citizens should avoid falling for offers from social networks and digital platforms.

This March 26, 2024, Petroecuador warned that, through digital platforms and messages from social networks the image of the state oil company is being used in a “fraudulent manner” and offering the alleged purchase of shares.

Thus, for example, on social networks such as Facebook there are posts that advertise Petroecuador shares for $250.

If the citizen expresses interest, a visit from a ‘broker’ is offered to explain the transaction.

“We reiterate that this public company does not carry out any type of transaction to request money from citizens in deceptive processes, which have no relationship with our operational and administrative management,” said a statement from the state oil company.

All Petroecuador tenders, the company says, are carried out in accordance with current legal regulations and through open and public contests for companies seeking to invest in the main projects of the public oil company.

“We urge citizens to inform themselves through Petroecuador’s official channels to avoid falling into scams,” concluded Petroecuador. (J.S.)
