(ANSA) – SAN BENEDETTO DEL TRONTO, 21 AUG – The already large section of the “Giuseppe Lesca” municipal library in San Benedetto del Tronto (Ascoli Piceno) dedicated to users with visual or cognitive disabilities is being enriched with new technological tools.
Thanks to the win of the national competition “Città che legge”, the Center for Books and Reading – Cepell of the Ministry of Culture has allocated to the coastal municipality a contribution of 30 thousand euros to the annual project “Officina Lesca: my library is different”, thanks to which two scanner pens were purchased. The two tools have the function of digital reader to support learning, very useful for users of any age who have reading difficulties so that they can have equal access to texts.
The two new devices allow you to scan texts and turn them into audio files, which can then be exported to your computer or tablet. The pens also allow you to translate texts into various other languages. These are useful tools for students, people with low vision or dyslexia. The pens can be connected directly to your own audio playback device, such as a headset, allowing the user to hear the text immediately.
Finally, thanks to the “photo Ocr” function of the pens, it is possible to photograph the text and make it available in an editable format.
The intervention, aimed at enhancing the inclusiveness of the Library and configuring it as an environment in which to find and develop one’s autonomy, is part of the action “Raccogli…AMO letture” carried out in partnership with the Comprehensive School Institute – ISC Sud and in collaboration with the Italian Union of the Blind and Partially Sighted – UICI of Ascoli Piceno and Fermo.
