Scared judges: will they have to pay armored fuel?

by time news

On the 20th of March, the Federal Justice Council will analyze whether or not the judges should pay for the fuel for the armored cars they use.

The detail refers specifically to the judges who supervise federal penitentiaries. Therefore, now judges are afraid of the possibility of having to pay for this recurring expense, according to the Association of Federal Judges of Brazil, Ajufe.

The president of Ajufe, Nelson Alves, is obviously against the decision, arguing that it makes no sense for the federal prison judge to have to pay for the costs involving the car he uses, as his role is already extremely risky and that this arrangement it only exists to ensure that the professional has the minimum safety conditions to carry out his work.

The arrangement he is referring to is a cooperation agreement between the Federal Justice Council and the Ministry of Justice, from 2017, which was made to create security measures for federal judges in federal prisons.

The agreement made the Ministry of Justice buy the armored cars and the Council was responsible for their maintenance and conservation, which included the necessary fuel.

Then, in 2019, a resolution was passed to regulate the use of these armored cars. It was then that the Federal Regional Court of the 1st Region submitted a query to the CJF questioning who should pay for this fuel, since it was not clear in the text of the resolution whether this expense should be included in vehicle maintenance or not.

The detail is that the whole discussion is happening because of six judges, yes, only six magistrates have this function of supervising federal penitentiaries, across the country! We are certainly talking about millions and millions of reais that are spent to supply all these six cars, right?
