The DFL announced on Thursday evening that the relegation duel between the two traditional clubs will take place next Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Millerntor Stadium in St. Pauli.
The DFL writes: “After the DFL received the non-use notice on Thursday afternoon and an immediate legal review, it is now clear that a short-term correction of the structural defects and thus the timely staging of the game in the Bremer Brücke stadium cannot be guaranteed.”
Schalke welcomes decision
The city of Osnabrück had ordered an “immediately enforceable cease and desist” due to structural defects in the roof structure of the stadium on the Bremer Bridge. Therefore the transfer to Hamburg took place.
Schalke had previously suggested, among other things, that the match be held on a neutral pitch, without fans in Osnabrück, or that it be relocated to the arena in Gelsenkirchen. Above all, the Royal Blues wanted to prevent a postponement to a later date between the 33rd and 34th matchdays.
“The new appointment was made after hearing from both clubs in agreement with FC St. Pauli, the media partner Sky and the security authorities,” the league association continued.
Schalke welcomed the solution found “in the spirit of fair and equal competition”. The Royal Blues also “expressly thanked” FC St. Pauli and its club management as well as the DFL.
