(ANSA) – ROME, SEPTEMBER 20 – “Sardinia is free of swine fever and this is a truly extraordinary result”. This is what the Minister of Health, Orazio Schillaci, and the Minister of Food Sovereignty, Francesco Lollobrigida, declared in a joint statement. “The government – they added – has made the maximum effort, also in terms of resources, to fight the virus and support our farmers. Today comes good news for Sardinia but also for Piedmont, Calabria and Liguria which see some territories exit the restricted zones. The measures adopted – the two ministers continued – require sacrifices from companies, to which we are guaranteeing support, but they are necessary to safeguard animal health and avoid repercussions on breeding activities. These initial results indicate the path to follow, according to the strategy implemented by the commissioner’s office, which is working tirelessly also in the other areas affected by African swine fever”.
